The time has come! – Data Market Ignite Night

Right before the start of the Vienna Digital Days the Data Market Austria invited speakers and interested participants to the Data Market Ignite Night. The event was hosted by the new data community space of Firestarter.

The ignite talks allowed the speakers to present the projects in 6 minutes with some additional questions to keep the audience motived and interested.

Let’s Start the (DMA) show

DMA´s Mihai Lupu opened the stage with a short overview of the DMA and the welcomed everybody to the interesting evening. The DMA is currently in a very interesting phase, starting to offer the first insights for cooperating companies and industry partners. In the near future, a beta release of the DMA is planned and eagerly awaited by all interested parties.

BMVIT

Did you ever ask yourself what projects the BMVIT is currently involved with? Lisbeth Mosnik presented some insights into the current main emphasis topics, past projects, and future possibilities to cooperate with the BMVIT.

City of Vienna

Brigitte Lutz, the data governance coordinator of the city of Vienna, focussed here ignite talk on the Open Data projects of the city of Vienna, their pioneering role for Austria and all of Europe.

Another interesting programme from the city of Vienna was presented by Timon Jakli and Lothar Eysn. The project “Wien gibt Raum” helps people with the management of objects in public spaces. An important basis for this project is surveying the existing objects in public space through a mobile mapping campaign. The data generated by this surveying vehicles can be used for virtual location visits, for the creation of geodata and facilitate the use of public space for the population and companies.

Winner of the Data Incubator Call

The second part of the event was focused on the six winners of the FFG Data incubator Call. For the first time, the winning start-ups and KMU’s had the opportunity to present their projects and products to a broad range of participants.

The different approaches where all data driven and included topics like data security by the company OwnYourData. They combine technologies to provide logic with data in Docker containers, to semantically describe, validate and track usage conditions.

Another winner, Hans Jürgen Pfeiffer from Ikoone presented Spatial enrichment service which gives us the possibility of not only mapping the data but further run spatial operators using this enriched maps.

The product presented by Luxactive, makes it possible to provide location-related data, which is normally produced for large companies, for all interested parties. The goal of the product is to make existing high-quality and location-based tourism data available for a requested geo-position.

Last but not least spoton statistics presented their vision. The pilot project focuses on the establishment of a vendor-neutral data platform, which receives anonymized location-based mobile radio data (ASM data) from mobile service providers (for example Hutchison Drei Austria GmbH) and from which innovative statistical evaluations and analyzes, e.g. Frequency counts, allows for businesses.
